We are going to have a couple special projects going on throughout the year during our writing time. The first one will be our Parent Journals. Every Friday your child will bring home their one subject notebook with a letter written to you! They will tell you about their week, things they are learning and talking about in the classroom and some of their favorite moments from each week. It will then be your job to write a letter back to them!!! This turns into a great memento and students get very excited about writing to their parents every week! The positive words exchanged are very motivational!!! It is imperative that these journals get returned weekly. Please make it a point to write your letter back during the weekend and get the journals sent back in on Monday or Tuesday. Thank you!
We will also be working on a little pen pal project throughout the year! Our entire platoon will be writing to students in the 1st grade at Bad Axe! We will write back and forth throughout the year and hopefully at the end of the year we will meet each other for a little field trip!! We are very excited about this project!

Please encourage your child to write at home on a regular basis. Whether they are writing in a notebook or typing a story online, keep their imaginations going with words and stories. Please visit the Scholastic Story Starters website below. It is a fabulous resource for students to create silly, creative, funny story starters and let their imaginations run wild. They get to pick their genre and the type of writing they want to do. They even get to type it on the computer (or it is compatible with the iPad) and add an illustration. They can download their writing and send it to loved ones to share. Please keep their passion for writing alive at home!
